Description
Here's a simple and delicious recipe for White Sauce Pasta.
Ingredients:
For the Pasta:
200 grams pasta (penne, fusilli, or any pasta of your choice)
Water (to boil the pasta)
1 teaspoon salt
For the White Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (maida)
2 cups milk (preferably warm)
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder (optional)
1/4 cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
For the Vegetables (optional but recommended):
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup bell peppers, thinly sliced (red, yellow, green)
1/2 cup broccoli florets
1/4 cup sweet corn
1 small onion, finely chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Cook the Pasta:
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add salt and the pasta.
Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente.
Drain the pasta and set it aside. You can toss it with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
Prepare the Vegetables:
Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and chopped onions. Saute until the onions are translucent.
Add the bell peppers, broccoli, and sweet corn. Saute for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crunchy.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the vegetables from the pan and set them aside.
Make the White Sauce:
In the same pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the all-purpose flour and whisk continuously to form a smooth paste (roux). Cook for about 1-2 minutes without letting it brown.
Gradually add the warm milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
Add salt, black pepper powder, and nutmeg powder (if using). Stir well.
Add the grated cheese and mix until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.
Add the cooked pasta and sauteed vegetables to the white sauce. Toss well to coat everything evenly.
Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat everything through. .
